COD-306080-RESEARCH IN VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS AND OPEN SCIENCE (6 CREDITS ECTS)

Objectives of the subject:

The subject has a triple role in the Master’s study programme:

Apply methods and techniques to measure digital information systems and analyse virtual interactions.
Familiarise the students of the Master in Digital Information Systems with the ethical and legal implications of the collection, analysis and use of data in digital environments, as well as with the dissemination of research results.
To identify and select national and international projects and infrastructures for Open Science, in order to be able to deal with the management of research data in this context.

COD-306081 – DIGITAL INFORMATION UNITS AND RESOURCES (6 CREDITS ECTS)

Objectives:

To use correctly the concepts and terms used in the context of planning and evaluation of information units.
Develop and apply the theoretical and methodological principles that support the planning, design and evaluation of digital information units.
Apply correctly the techniques for collecting, processing and interpreting data obtained about the internal functioning of digital information units and their environment
Select and apply the appropriate techniques, according to the users’ needs, in the selection, organization, access and evaluation of digital information
Use the information technologies used in digital information units and services.

COD. 306082 – DIGITAL INCLUSION AND SUSTAINABILITY (3 CREDITS ECTS)

Objectives:

Demonstrate theoretical knowledge, practical skills and methodological foundations for attention to diversity, sustainability and inclusion through digital media.
Acquire and apply theoretical and practical knowledge about the conceptual and institutional framework of digital inclusion.
To use appropriately methodologies and techniques related to digital accessibility processes and attention to diversity.

COD. 306083 – DIGITAL PRODUCTION AND EDITING (4.5 CREDITS ECTS)

Objectives

To provide knowledge of the contents and means of digital production and editing, as well as of the consumption habits of digital reading,
Identify sources for their study and characteristics of reading applications.
To study the characteristics of the market and digital reading.
Characterize the transformations in the publishing sector from the perspective of digital publishing.
Identify and select the most relevant platforms for access to digital content.

COD. 306085 – INDEXING SYSTEMS AND DIGITAL INFORMATION RETRIEVAL (6 CREDITS ECTS)

Objectives:

Identify and systematize the main theoretical models of information retrieval.
Apply methods and tools used for the development of information retrieval systems.
To adequately place the discipline of information retrieval within the scientific and professional profiles.
Manage the sources of information necessary to know the state of the art of information retrieval.

COD. 306086 DIGITAL PRESERVATION (6 CREDITS ECTS)

Objectives:

Identify and apply key concepts, demonstrating mastery of specific terminology.
Control and apply provisions, norms and regulations that define and regulate digital preservation.
Identify and differentiate the physical and logical characteristics of digital objects from analogue ones.
Coordinate those resources involved in the management of a digital preservation unit.
Analyse digital preservation criteria and requirements.
Identify, analyse and manage the main risks linked to the nature of digital objects and their context.
Formulate and implement main policies and strategies by estimating the knowledge of national and international experiences and initiatives used for digital preservation.
Design comprehensive digital preservation processes or specific digitisation/migration/conversion processes for an organisation.
Use specific tools to facilitate digital continuity and preservation.
Reflect on and discuss trends and situational reports in digital preservation.

CODE 306090-PRACTICUM

The Practicum is conceived as a period of 125 hours (5 /6 per day) in which students carry out in specific work contexts tasks related to the knowledge acquired in the Master, in order to enable them to work in digital information systems. This website includes the collaborating institutions and a teaching sheet informing about the procedure. The Studium platform provides information on its management.

Royal Decree 822/2021, of 28 September, which establishes the organisation of university education and quality assurance procedures, establishes the structure to which study plans leading to the award of bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees must be adapted and indicates, in article 17. Section 4 states that official master’s degree courses will conclude with the preparation and defence of a Master’s dissertation (TFM) of between 6 and 30 credits, which must be carried out in the final phase of the study plan and be oriented towards the evaluation of competences associated with the degree.
